Brad Oilen - Vice Chairman
Brad Ollen is the Manager of Waste Services for the M.D. of Bonnyville. The M.D. serves nearly 12,000 residents with solid waste and recycling services in the Lakeland region of Northeastern Alberta, surrounding the Town of Bonnyville and the City of Cold Lake. The M.D. offers its residents services via curbside waste collection for approximately 450 households in hamlets and rural subdivisions, 24/7 household waste and recycling drop-off at 32 community bin site locations, as well as six (6) Class 3 Landfill sites with Class 2 waste transfer stations.
After five years of playing Huskie Football and receiving a Leisure and Sport Management Degree at the University of Saskatchewan, Brad spent five years back in his hometown of Lloydminster, SK employed in the recreation industry and coaching high school football.
In 2010, Brad was offered the Parks Manager position for the M.D. and moved up to Bonnyville. In 2015, he became the Manager of Waste Services and hasn’t looked back. A job in solid waste was never on his wish list, but this ever-changing industry has presented an opportunity for a challenging and rewarding career. Brad leads a dedicated team of 7 full-time and 7 part-time staff to manage the solid waste operations requirements at a total of 46 sites around the M.D. and he is always trying to be on the cutting edge of the industry to make the operation more efficient. Brad and the team are regular attendees of Alberta CARE Conferences and other training opportunities whenever they present themselves and have recently been hosts to Landfill Operators Basics and Transfer Station courses to help educate waste staff in the region.
Brad and his wife Melanie live in Bonnyville with their 3 young kids and spend their free time visiting family and friends near and far, swimming, biking, skating, and enjoying life in the Lakeland.
